So, apparently being rich does not make people happy. As I was listening to one of the morning talk shows today. They reported that several top psychologists show that it is not personal wealth that makes people happy, but friends and forgiveness.
One of the doctors said that the happiest people surround themselves with family and friends, and actively find ways to forgive each other. It’s like a key that unlocks happiness in people’s lives.
Study went on to say some very interesting things. It said that the ability to forgive others is a trait that is most strongly linked to happiness. In fact, they called it the queen of all virtues and probably the hardest one to come by.
An unforgiving heart is often the last emotional fortress that we surrender to the power of God. Even as followers of Jesus, letting go of bitterness and anger is extremely hard. That feeling that those who have hurt you or wronged you should suffer or pay consequences for their offenses. Letting Go is hard to do.
But think about it for a moment. How much has God forgiven us? When Jesus was teaching his disciples to pray, he said, forgive us our debts, just as we forgive others.
Did you read that? Jesus said that as intentional followers of him to extend mercy and forgiveness to others. One of the most tragic and poisonous things we can ever say is I will never forgive them.
I’ve heard so many times that unforgiveness is like drinking a jar of poison and hoping the offender will die.
Make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Forgiveness isn’t just a nice thing for us to do, or a suggestion from God that will make us happy. He actually commands us to forgive freely and I have been forgiven and freely I must forgive. It’s like a key that unlocks happiness in our lives.
I really am glad you took this time to read this through…
God bless you,
